Opposition to Scores on Doors in ACT

The plan to make it compulsory for ACT food businesses to display food  hygiene ratings has been strongly opposed by the majority of food businesses.

The Labor Party and the Green have committed to implementing the scheme after the October election.

A number of food businesses believe it should be a pass or fail, rather than a rating. Restaurant and Catering Australia’s national chief executive, John Hart believe that the Eat Safe operation in Brisbane has been operating successfully for years and that 5 star rated restaurants should be able to show their customers that they excel in food hygiene. He believe the rating system has the same objectives as the Name and Shame... the businesses that fail to comply will be named, and the businesses who excel, get the recognition from their efforts.
